About Mistranslators

Once, somewhere, I switched on the Russian translation during an episode of House and was amazed. Why do they make stuff up when the translation is so straightforward? Is it more fun that way or something?

Admittedly, when I watch it in English, sometimes I can’t keep up with the visuals and grasp the meaning of the lines at the same time. That’s why I switched to Russian, to understand – but I might have had even  more success just watching it again; I would have understood it the second time around. And I certainly wouldn’t have translated “break ban on sugar” as “you eat the sugar bowl”,  or “chow down a bucket of frozen youghurt” as “you eat all the yogurts together with the spoons”.

P.S. As it turned out, this vomit-inducing translation was made by the “Domashny” TV channel.
